Stressed Spelt Backwards Is Desserts….

Not sure what that has to do with anything really, but it’s good to know. Meanwhile, I want to talk about the S word…S – T – R – E – S – S. Is it just me, or is it a fact of life that as you get older, stress increases simultaneously?
Sometimes it has the power to consume me, and I’ll be honest, it’s a part of me that I REALLY dislike!!! I would give anything to be an easy-going person that just glides through life without a single worry in my brain. I think there are two types of stresses…one is note worthy; that of a crisis or terrible situation…and then there is the silly one; the one where we shouldn’t let bother us, but do.
Thinking back, I have always been a stressed person, a worry wart you might say. I’m not sure if it’s one of the requirements for being a big sister but whatever the reason, it’s definitely instilled in my DNA. I don’t think it’s always necessarily a bad thing, the fact that I get so worried and worked up about things is because I care deeply for the world and those in it. Buuutttt, I definitely don’t think it is healthy to let stress consume you. I really dislike the fact that I let little things worry me, which then turn into big things and before I know it, they are consuming me and zapping me of reason and positive energy.
For a little while now, I have consciously made a decision to get on top of my stress though and I have learnt that sometimes we just need to breathe. Recently I have been actively making an effort to ensure I have ‘me-time’ each and every day. Most days life seems so hectic that my me time is right before bed, prior to getting a few zzzz’s, but nonetheless, it’s still me time. I don’t know much about meditation, although it is something I really want to learn about. I find this what works for me is the following; I lie in bed, on my back and breathe. It’s honestly as simple as that. When I say breathe, I mean really breathe…that is, when I breathe in, I feel my tummy go up and as I exhale, it decreases. I simply focus on every breath coming in and out of my body and I know it might sound crazy-silly but as I breathe in I visualize positive energy and thoughts entering my body and the opposite, as I breathe out; expelling all negative energy. My mind is always racing, but during this time, I really try and focus solely on my breathing to ensure there are no worries or thoughts in my head…its all about the breath. And you know what, I think it works. I have noticed a huge change in what I let stress me out these days...and I feel better for it.
It doesn’t matter if it’s something that doesn’t even warrant a mention, or something huge. Stress has the ability to consume us, over take our mind and body and result in negative implications. So, no matter what the situation, all it takes to escape is a few little breaths. It’s important to breathe and reboot.
